Yama Niyama

Yama Niyama - Meditation Tip Number 5, on How to Meditate Deeply

Yama Niyama are simply the Sanskrit words for the do's and don'ts of life. Like the ten commandments of the Christian faith they aid the yogi in his quest toward the attainment of God.

You can read the full list of do's and don't's by clicking on the following link that takes you to our web page on Stages of Meditation of which they are a part of.

Meditation is about drawing the consciousness up the spinal channel therefore it is not advisable to do anything that will pull it back down. Over indulging in sex, with the wrong consciouness is one of the don'ts or Yama and is just one example of how the consciousness is pulled down the spinal channel, there by making the consciousness body bound. It is interesting to note that both the Christian and Hindu scriptures speak about this perhaps the single strongest inhibitor to man making headway in meditation.
