Self Realization is all about knowing your true self, but who are you anyway? You are more than just a body, right? If your whole identity is tied up with the body when you die your in real trouble. Think about it when you are sleeping, where are you? Your body is asleep in bed but you are no longer conscious of it. But you know your alive right, because you are aware of your consciousness - like when you are dreaming. So we see there is a separateness of body and what we call mind. Another word for mind is consciousness, but where did your consciousness come from ? God ! God is the one consciousness that all other bubbles of consciousness came from. But don't take my word for it.The whole aim is that you gradually become more and more aware of your divine heritage, but why should we want to? What we would find if we were to analyze man is that he spends his whole life in pursuit of happiness. Whether he is sleeping, eating, working or playing, all his actions all boil down to that one desire to be happy. What happiness the worldly man finds ultimately disappears. The aware man knows that he can never find lasting happiness outside himself and makes the effort to know God better. (The happiness that he discovers when he finds God is like no other happiness, it is complete and without lack) He finds the more he knows God the more he sees himself as a reflection of God. "Know ye not that ye are gods and the spirit of God dwells within you" 1 Corinthians 3:16. What he finds is as he becomes more aware of his divine nature the happier he becomes. Why? Because God is the source of all Joy , Happiness and Bliss. Therefore the real test to see to how close you are to God is to analyze your happiness. How happy are you and does your happiness flee the moment trials accost you? When you can truly stand unshaken in the midst of all trials and retain your peace and happiness, you know that you have found God and that you are well on the way to self realization.
